Hello! I’ve recently returned from a magical trip to Finland that was so fun and restorative. We saw the Northern Lights while snowshoeing above the Arctic Circle, frantically dipped in and out of the Baltic Sea while visiting a sauna, and even tried our hand at ice fishing. (Me being a vegetarian killjoy, I was secretly thrilled when we didn’t catch anything!) Now I’m back home, I wanted to drop a quick note to share details about some upcoming and recently-announced performances in Chicago. But first, I had to share just a few photos from our incredible vacation ~
Now I’m ready to hit the ground running, and while I’m thrilled to be traveling quite a bit this spring, (with performances in Kansas City, Poland(!!), and Boston all on the docket), I’m so happy to have really fantastic projects happening right here at home. Chicago friends: I hope to catch you at these upcoming performances!
March 7, 2025 at 7:30 pm: Couperin’s Leçons de ténèbres
St. Chrysostom’s Church, 1424 N Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60610
For the second year in a row, I’ll be singing Couperin’s Leçons de ténèbres, a Lenten masterpiece for two sopranos and continuo. This concert was such a success last year, I’m so happy to bring it back with soprano Erica Schuller, lutenist Brandon Acker (a low-key YouTube phenomenon!), viola da gambist Craig Trompeter, and organist Richard Hoskins.
March 14, 2025 at 7 pm: Love Without End: Music for soprano, violin, and piano
St. Chrysostom’s Church, 1424 N Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60610
For this total passion project, I’m joined by two of my best friends: pianist Madeline Slettedahl and violinist Shelby Yamin. We’ve collaboratively programmed this recital and it’s got something in it for everyone. A few pieces I’m especially excited to sing: some staggering original songs and folk song arrangements by Rebecca Clarke, Erich Korngold’s Drei Lieder, Op. 22, and Gustav Holst’s moving Four Songs for voice and violin. No tickets required and please join us for a little post-concert reception:)
April 27, 2025 at 3 pm: Music Among Friends with Ars Musica Chicago
All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 4550 North Hermitage Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60640
Later in the spring, I’m looking forward to singing some fantastic Handel and Rameau cantatas with my friends in Ars Musica Chicago, including Shelby Yamin (yes, we get to play host to her twice this spring!), cellist Ana Kim, and my dear friend Jason Moy on harpsichord.
May 1, 2025 at 5:30 pm: Haymarket Opera Gala
The Arts Club of Chicago, 201 East Ontario Street, Chicago IL 60611
This annual cabaret-style evening of celebration—a favorite event for many Chicago music lovers—offers tantalizing peeks into upcoming Haymarket productions and a delicious informal dinner buffet in the intimate elegance of the Arts Club of Chicago.
May 4, 2025 at 4 pm: Dido & Aeneas (Dido) with Bella Voce
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 939 Hinman Ave, Evanston, IL 60202
Dido & Aeneas is a perfect opera and Dido is one of my favorite roles to sing. I know my friends in Bella Voce will sound glorious in the stunning choruses that fill this work! One performance only, right before I head to Boston to stage Octavia with my beloved Boston Early Music family. Be there!
September 14-15, 2025: Gluck’s Orfeo ed Eurydice with Music of the Baroque (role and house debut) with Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, Heidi Stober, and conducted by Dame Jane Glover.
October 24-25, 2025: Jacopo Peri’s Euridice with Haymarket Opera and the Newberry Consort It feels so good to be part of the Haymarket family - this latest invitation is an exciting one! Peri’s Euridice has the distinction of being the earliest surviving opera.
I look forward to sharing more exciting news and more recordings with you in the coming months! Thank you for your interest and for reading and supporting my singing.
Hugs,
Hannah
